Overview of Behind These Walls

Behind These Walls was an OBS program to expose the inhumane conditions in the prisons and their absolute control  over the lives of prisoners. The newsletter amplified the voices of prisoners, mainly in the Missouri system.  At the time of OBS' founding in 1980, there were seven adult prisons. With the mass incarceration explosion in the U.S., that number tripled to 21 prisons.
